Amazon Alexa+ Features: 5 Things the AI Assistant Can Actually Do

Last updated: May 16, 2026

The paid Alexa upgrade can book reservations, automate smart-home routines, remember user preferences, and complete multi-step tasks across services.

Featured Summary:

  • Alexa+ executes multi-step tasks across services such as reservations, shopping, and home automation
  • The assistant retains contextual memory across conversations and recognizes recurring preferences
  • Users create automations through natural-language instructions instead of manual app configuration
  • Alexa+ introduces proactive suggestions, though Amazon has not published performance benchmarks

Amazon Alexa+ features turn the company’s voice assistant into a task-executing AI capable of completing actions across multiple services.

Instead of responding to single commands, the subscription version of Alexa can now book restaurant reservations, coordinate smart-home routines, place grocery orders, and manage daily tasks through a single conversation.

The upgrade expands Alexa beyond basic voice control into an assistant that executes requests, remembers user preferences, and automates routines across connected platforms.

These capabilities define Amazon Alexa+ features and underpin the company’s move to a $19.99 subscription tier.

Amazon Alexa+ Features

Alexa+ Features: Agentic Task Execution Across Services

Alexa+ introduces agentic task execution, allowing the assistant to complete a sequence of actions across multiple services within a single conversation.

At launch, Amazon confirmed integrations with platforms including OpenTable for restaurant reservations, Amazon Fresh for grocery ordering, and Uber for ride-hailing, enabling Alexa+ to authenticate and execute tasks across these services without requiring users to switch applications.

A single request can therefore trigger multiple actions in sequence — reserving a restaurant table, adding groceries to a delivery order, and arranging transportation to the location.

Classic Alexa processes commands individually, while Alexa+ maintains multi-step task execution across services within a single session.

Alexa+ Natural Language Automation: Automated Routines With Voice Commands

Natural-language automation is one of the core Amazon Alexa+ features, allowing users to create multi-step routines simply by describing them.

Instead of configuring triggers and device actions inside the Alexa app, the assistant interprets spoken instructions and converts them into automated routines that execute across connected devices and services.

Amazon’s documentation illustrates the capability with a morning routine example: a weather briefing, a calendar summary, and activation of a connected coffee maker at a scheduled time.

Alexa+ interprets the request and schedules the routine automatically. These automations become more useful when the assistant can remember user preferences across conversations.

Alexa+ Memory and Personalization: How Alexa Remembers User Preferences

Alexa+ introduces a memory layer that allows the assistant to retain user context across sessions and apply it to future requests.

According to Amazon’s product documentation, the system can store information such as dietary preferences, frequent contacts, preferred service providers, and previous order activity, allowing Alexa+ to interpret follow-up requests without requiring users to repeat details.

Requests referencing past behavior — such as “order the usual” or “book somewhere like last time” — can therefore be resolved using stored context. The capability is not available in the free classic Alexa tier, which processes commands independently.

Amazon states that the memory profile is stored separately from voice recording history, and users can review or delete stored data through the Alexa app.

The assistant’s ability to remember preferences becomes particularly important when interacting with services beyond Amazon’s own ecosystem.

Alexa+ Integrations: Apps and Services That Work With Alexa+

Alexa+ connects to a growing range of third-party services, allowing the assistant to execute tasks across external platforms during a single conversation.

At launch, Amazon confirmed integrations with several external platforms, including restaurant booking, transportation, and food delivery services..

On the smart-home side, Alexa+ supports interoperability standards including Matter and Zigbee, allowing the assistant to control devices from manufacturers such as Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, and Honeywell.

Amazon’s developer documentation also introduces a software development kit (SDK) that allows additional platforms to build Alexa+ integrations, expanding the range of apps and services that work with Alexa+ as the ecosystem grows.

Amazon Alexa+ Features: Proactive Suggestions and the Shift Toward Predictive Assistants

Proactive suggestions are among the newest Amazon Alexa+ features, allowing the assistant to surface recommendations before a user issues a request.

According to Amazon’s product documentation, the system draws on calendar entries, purchase history, and device usage patterns to generate prompts such as reorder reminders, scheduling alerts, or adjustments to existing routines.

The feature expands Alexa beyond reactive voice commands toward predictive assistance. Early coverage from outlets including The Verge and CNET reported mixed results in the weeks following launch, with some reviewers describing the suggestions as inconsistent.

Amazon has not published performance benchmarks, but the addition extends Amazon Alexa+ features toward a more autonomous assistant operating within the Echo ecosystem.
